Update: Motivational Rice
April 03, 2023 – In a bold display of extravagance, Episode has introduced a 100php bowl of rice, aptly named the “Motivational Rice.” This audacious menu item not only pokes fun at customers who cannot afford such an exorbitant price for a staple food but also uses it as a measure of one’s wealth, gauging how many bowls of rice they can afford. This ludicrous notion stings even more when considering that many Filipinos, particularly those in Metro Manila, struggle to make ends meet despite earning the minimum wage of 570php per day. For these workers, who often resort to taking on additional jobs or working long hours, the “Motivational Rice” serves as a stark reminder of the widening gap between the haves and have-nots in society.

Update: Open?
March 30, 2023 – Episode Bar + Kitchen is back! After a week of closure, the sports bar is reopening with a fresh start and a #CocoFansParty dedicated to Coco Martin’s fans. The event offers free entrance, unlimited cocktails, and complimentary Jack+Coke for ladies, while (in jest) gentlemen can gain free entry by dressing up and wearing makeup – char!
Piano and saxophone performances will add flair to the sports bar atmosphere. DJ Justin San will spin tunes from 9 PM to 2 AM, ensuring a night of music and dancing.
However, questions about this tactic still linger:
- Is this poking fun at Coco Martin’s fans?
- Where are Rendon’s fans? Why weren’t they at the first grand opening?
- Is this the right approach? Is it well-thought-out?
- How will Coco fans take this? Will they show up?
Rendon, the owner, hopes this ONE MORE SHOT will mark a new chapter for Episode Bar + Kitchen.

Update: TEMPORARILY CLOSED
March 27, 2023 – Episode Bar + Kitchen, the biggest sports bar in Quezon City might have set the biggest flop in Quezon City, as it was surrounded by controversy. Days before the event, Rendon Labador, the owner, created a stir on social media by expressing his disapproval of Coco Martin’s filming of Batang Quiapo. He claimed the production caused disturbance and loss of profit for the vendors.
Then came the grand opening, but it was a flop. Rendon revealed zero sales of tickets, despite spending over 1 million pesos on food and drinks. “Lugi ang investment ko,” he lamented on Facebook. He also wrote that Coco Martin’s fans were palamunin and walang pera.
Despite the superb food and friendly staff, the grand opening turned out to be a soft opening with only friends and family of the owners and investors having reserved seatings. Two days after the event, Episode Bar announced that they are TEMPORARILY CLOSED.
Rendon’s actions show that he should have focused all his energy on his event. It seemed like he wanted to trend on social media, but it wasn’t the right kind of trending. Proper permits were issued for the production of Batang Quiapo, and filming on location can be good exposure for Quiapo.
The grand opening also coincided with Blackpink’s concert, which could have been a factor for people not showing up. Rendon’s takeaway from this whole saga is that he’ll be stronger than before.
It’s always disheartening to see any business, big or small, fail, especially as they create jobs for people. We sympathize for the employees who are temporarily out of jobs due to Episode Bar + Kitchen’s temporary closure.
We hope that the owners will use this setback as an opportunity to reflect, learn, and put their heads together to come back stronger with only positive energy. As they say, failure is not the end but the beginning of a new journey towards success. We look forward to seeing Episode Bar + Kitchen bounce back and create a better experience for its customers, while providing employment opportunities for the community.
